Questions covered in this guide
Map the existing and proposed locations
Draw where the current equipment sits and where the replacement proposal would put each major component. Include the return and supply connections, service route and nearby occupied areas. Ask whether the project retains the same arrangement or converts to a different one. A change in layout can affect much more than the equipment model.
Clarify the system category
Trane distinguishes indoor/outdoor split systems from packaged systems. Its packaged-system description places the equipment outdoors. Ask the contractor to identify the exact heating and cooling components in the proposed package. Keep controls, ducts, drainage and utilities visible even when the main equipment is in one cabinet. A category name does not establish which existing connections can safely or appropriately be reused.
Compare the surrounding installation work
Make rows for equipment setting, support, duct connections, electrical or fuel work, controls, drainage, access and finish restoration. Ask how weather-exposed connections and service clearances will be addressed under the actual product instructions. Have the responsible professionals evaluate any roof, structural or other special conditions. If a conversion changes indoor space, ask which old components will be removed and how openings will be restored. Compare the same room coverage and complete scope before evaluating total prices.
Use supplied project totals
Request a written installed price that identifies retained items, new work and unresolved conditions. Keep the final layout and equipment combination with the order. The HVAC calculator’s broad reference categories do not price every packaged unit or conversion, and an ordinary replacement range should not hide relocation or structural work. Use the supplied total for the complete proposed arrangement and keep any later change reviewable.
